Teacher – Speech, Language, Communication & Autism Specialist School\n\nLocation: Sheffield\n Contract Type: Temporary Fixed-Term Contract\n Duration: Until August 2027\n Salary: Competitive, dependent on experience and qualifications\n Start Date: September 2026\n\nAbout the School\n\nWe are a specialist school in Sheffield dedicated to supporting children and young people with Speech, Language and Communication Needs (SLCN) and Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC). Our mission is to provide a nurturing, inclusive, and highly structured learning environment where every student can develop the confidence, communication skills, and independence needed to achieve their full potential.\n\nOur staff work collaboratively with therapists, support staff, families, and external professionals to deliver a holistic and personalised educational experience for all learners.\n\nThe Role\n\nWe are seeking an enthusiastic, committed, and skilled Teacher to join our team on a temporary basis until August 2027. The successful candidate will be responsible for planning and delivering engaging lessons that meet the diverse needs of pupils with communication difficulties and autism.\n\nYou will create a positive and supportive classroom environment, implement personalised learning strategies, and contribute to the wider life of the school.\n\nKey Responsibilities\n\nPlan, deliver, and assess high-quality lessons tailored to individual pupil needs.\nDevelop and implement personalised learning programmes and targets.\nSupport students' communication, social interaction, emotional regulation, and independence skills.\nWork closely with speech and language therapists, teaching assistants, and other professionals.\nMonitor and record pupil progress, providing regular feedback to parents and carers.\nPromote positive behaviour and wellbeing through consistent and supportive approaches.\nContribute to annual reviews, EHCP processes, and multidisciplinary meetings where required.\n\nAbout You\n\nWe are looking for someone who:\n\nHolds Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or an equivalent recognised teaching qualification.\nHas experience working with pupils with Autism and/or Speech, Language and Communication Needs.\nDemonstrates excellent classroom management and differentiation skills.\nHas a strong understanding of inclusive teaching practices.\nCan build positive relationships with pupils, families, and colleagues.\nIs reflective, adaptable, and committed to continuous professional development.\n\nDesirable\n\nExperience within a specialist or SEND setting.\nKnowledge of communication-focused approaches such as PECS, Makaton, AAC, or SCERTS.\nExperience of supporting pupils with complex communication needs.\nUnderstanding of trauma-informed and autism-friendly practice.\nTeam Teach Trained \n\nWhat We Offer\n\nA supportive and collaborative specialist school environment.\nOpportunities for professional development and specialist SEND training.\nAccess to multidisciplinary expertise and resources.\nThe opportunity to make a meaningful difference in the lives of children and young people.\n\nSafeguarding\n\nThis post is subject to an enhanced DBS check and satisfactory references.
